Chansons D'Edith Piaf

** Chansons D'Edith Piaf** "Chansons D'Edith Piaf," performed by the Tethered Moon trio featuring pianist Masabumi Kikuchi, bassist Gary Peacock, and drummer Paul Motian, is an intriguing album that blends jazz with the timeless songs of legendary French singer Édith Piaf. Many reviewers express high admiration for the musical quality and the exceptional playing of all three musicians, acknowledging their extensive backgrounds and credentials in the jazz world. Album highlights include sound quality, engaging improvisation, and a thoughtful selection of Piaf's pieces, all showcasing the trio’s impressive musical dialogue. However, a significant point of contention arises from Kikuchi's vocalizations during performances, which many listeners find distracting. Critics note that these guttural sounds detract from the overall experience and could be off-putting for those who appreciate a more traditional jazz environment. While some listeners have grown accustomed to these vocalizations, maintaining that they can appreciate the music by tuning out the noise, others find it challenging to fully enjoy the album due to this unique stylistic choice. In summary, while "Chansons D'Edith Piaf" radiates musical brilliance and creativity, it may not cater to every listener's taste, particularly those who are sensitive to vocal distractions during instrumental performances. **
