Behçet NecatigilÖzdemir Asaf 1950'lerde kişiliğini bulduğu, şiirinin özelliklerini belirginleştirdiği zaman, bütün akımların dışında bir şairdi. Düşünceleri, duyguları yoğunlaştırıp kısacık şiirler yazışıyla Uzak Doğu ülkelerinin bilge şairlerine benziyordu. Bu özelliğiyle Garip akımının ilk günlerine de bağlanabilirdi, ama o akım içinde fazla bir yer tutmayan bu anlayış, Özdemir Asaf'ta düşünceye iyice ağırlık verilerek benimsenmiş, özenle işlenmiş, geliştirilmişti. Şiir düşüncelerin, duyguların yoğunlaştırılmasında aranıyordu. Uzun şiirlerde bile parçaların bu anlayışla ele alındığı açıktı.
